Hatif create dark and intense electronic music, driven by rhythm and repetition, with melodies that linger. Their music moves between cool, Nordic synthetic soundscapes and warmer Middle Eastern harmonies, with a personal touch that allows each track to find its own form. The band was formed by Markus Majdalani and Johan Eckerström.
The band made their debut with Everything Is Repetition (2022), an album characterised by cycles and shifts. The album was nominated for the Synthsläggan award for best debut and also made its way onto several end-of-year best-of lists, including the Göteborgs-Posten’s list of the year’s best songs.
Live, Hatif performs a cohesive set where the songs take centre stage, rather than superficial elements. The visuals are closely intertwined with the music, with imagery that follows the songs’ flow and rhythm, enhancing the atmosphere rather than competing with it.
