As the name suggests, the dark electronic project Hidden Lines emerges from the shadows, with music that builds evocatively, just as one might expect from this inimitable duo from Stockholm. With a vision of creating dark, emotional music inspired by the various waves of the 1980s, they navigate a soundscape where nostalgia meets the contemporary. The Finnish-German-English lyrics are often melancholic and poetic, with a playful naivety providing a contrast.
“It is not a matter of reading between the lines, but of preconscious, archaic patterns that lie hidden beneath the sediment of the obvious. Hidden layers that overlap all human emotions and form an impenetrable collective fear.” Hidden Lines explores the diversity of these themes in its artistic practice.
The band drifts along – lyrically improvisational and musically intuitive – through vast expanses of human despair and hopeful longing, occasionally revealing small, innocent glimpses that make us feel there is still reason to hope.
Hidden Line’s songs exist within an aesthetic dichotomy where experimental vocals evoke distant memories of eerie nursery rhymes, echoing over a raw, driving and highly danceable blend of electronic beats and dusty synth loops. It is precisely this delicate balance that elevates the songs’ interplay and lends them their rich variety. With their debut album Uusi Aalto (2023) embraces broader aspects of the topography of its soundscape and gently weaves them into captivating, intimate and moving compositions.
